Madagascar takes lead in athletic contest
Madagascar took lead on Wednesday in athletic competition among the seven Indian Ocean islands, which are holding the seventh games.
Athletes from the host country won 9 gold medals out of a total of 13 with Mauritius, Reunion and Seychelles sharing the other four.
Razanamalala Hanitra Soa Olga from the Madagascan team finished the line in 1:00:9 minutes in women's 400-meter hurdle race followed by Reunion's Chantal Kelly, who took the silver only 0.035 minutes behind.
Masindrazana Roseline, also from the host country, took the gold in women's handicapped 100-meter running in 15:02 seconds and her team mate got the silver in 15:09 seconds.
A controversy emerged when Madagascar's Embony Elodie Vanessa and her team mate Ramiliarijaona Nirina run to the end in same time, 24.04 seconds, but the referees decided Vanessa as winner in 200-meter race.
For the handicapped 200-meter march, Madagascar's Tsimazava Gephirine Ciement took the men's group gold in 26.04 seconds while his colleague Razafindravalo Norbertin took the silver.
The men's 800-meter race was also won by Andrianjafy Mahefa Manou of the host country in 1:50.02 minutes while his teammate Saholinirina Harie Eliane took another gold in women's 1500-meter.
The Madagascan team also took the gold in women's 1500-meter and men's 10,000 meters race by Saholinirina Marie Eliane in 4:29.04 minutes and Rakotondrasoa Fulgence in 31:06.01.
